Puscifer: V is for Vagina Reviewby Michael Szul on 2008-06-05 09:07:13tags: maynard james keenan, music, puscifer, underworld Asides from being great pop culture horror/action flicks, the Underworld movies were also known to have produced two really good goth-styled soundtracks. Two of the really standout songs on these albums were from Maynard James Keenan's side project Puscifer. Keenan - best known for his work in Tool and A Perfect Circle - created two really original and haunting songs in REV. 22:20 and The Undertaker. These two songs were perfected industrial rock-goth, so you could imagine my excitement when I heard that Keenan was going to release a full length Puscifer CD. Unfortunately V is for Vagina turned out to be a big disappointment. The music, in fact, is nothing like the two previously released items from the soundtracks. The entire album is a dull drone of hardly distinguishable music with low monotonous singing. The music shows potential, but after the great soundtrack releases and the fact that this is Keenan, you wouldn't expect potential, you'd expect immediate actuality. Even the CD versions of Rev. 22:20 and The Undertaker were remixed to fit into the sleepy theme of the album. For someone who likes to experiment, Keenan was hardly experimental with this Puscifer release. |

Ever thought that the “sleepy theme” is used so that the music can work its stuff on your subconscious mind?
by nekospecial on 2008-06-10 10:42:22Maybe. But then shouldn’t it have been released as a New Age meditation CD? My biggest problem is the disconnect between the excellent soundtrack songs and the V if for Vagina release. The soundtrack songs were great; the V songs didn’t even come close to them. You wouldn’t even know that they were from the same band.
